A Positive Result for Interstate Hunters Visiting Tasmania.

Share

SIFA is pleased to share the news that the Tasmanian Government has rectified an issue that prevented licenced firearm owners from outside Tasmania from legally being able to use firearms in the state due to recreational hunting not being recognised for an exemption from holding a Tasmanian Firearms licence.

On 9 January 2025, Tasmanian Police Commissioner Donna Adams signed an Approval of Recreational Hunting pursuant to Section 55 of the Firearms Act 1996. The approval was made valid from 13 January 2025.

SIFA commends Commissioner Adams for rectifying this issue quickly and effectively to ensure interstate hunters can continue supporting Tasmania’s regional economy and shooting-related industries.

SIFA would also like to acknowledge the work done by all stakeholders who engaged Tasmania Police to rectify this issue.

Please visit the Interstate licences section of the Tasmania Police website for more information.
