Pollies and the Press Blast Off in Annual Shooting Competition.
Federal Politicians pitted their shooting skills against the Press in Queanbeyan, NSW in a round of sporting clays on Friday, 21 November 2024.
The “Pollies vs Press” annual Christmas shoot is hosted by the Parliamentary Friends of Shooting (PFOS) – a non-partisan group of Federal MPs and Senators who support, participate and are interested in growing the sport of shooting. The group is co-chaired by Dan Repacholi MP and Senator Bridgette McKenzie both of whom competed at the event.
The event was held at the picturesque Canberra International Clay Target Club and was sponsored by the Shooting Industry Foundation of Australia (SIFA) and National Press Club.
The annual Christmas Shoot has become a fixture on the Parliamentary Friends of Shooting calendar, bringing together big guns of federal politics for a unique opportunity to showcase our industry to lawmakers and media alike.
The event drew participation from across the political spectrum, with notable attendees including: Ms Alison Byrnes MP (ALP), Mr Colin Boyce MP (LP), Senator Perrin Davey (NATS), Mr Ian Goodenough (LP), Hon Kristy McBain MP (ALP), Senator Bridgette McKenzie (NATS), Michael Pettersson MLA (ACT, ALP), Senator David Pocock (IND), and Mr Dan Repacholi MP (ALP).
The competition was fierce, with the pollies and the press being tied at the end of the round which required a shoot-off to determine this year’s victors, which was ultimately won by the press.
SIFA CEO, James Walsh was encouraged by the new faces seen at the event:
“As proud sponsors of the Parliamentary Friends of Shooting, SIFA was delighted to see fresh faces among the attending politicians and press. Events like these offer a unique chance to showcase the shooting industry, helping to build a stronger appreciation and understanding of the sport we are so passionate about.”
