SIFA Calls for Focus on Criminals
Shooting Industry Foundation of Australia (SIFA) Director Joshua Raymond questions the Australian Broadcasting Commission’s decision to make public private information about Licensed Firearms’ Owners’ storage location.
“What community interest can possibly be served by the ABC publishing the location of securely and safely stored firearms?,” Mr Raymond asks.
“It’s time Australian media takes seriously its weight of accountability to our communities and stops its obsession with revealing the location of law abiding people and their registered, licensed firearms,” he says.
SIFA is the peak body representing one of Australia’s oldest and most respected industries; its members are trusted to equip Australia’s defence, law enforcement, security and agricultural personnel.
“Australian licensed firearm owners are law abiding citizens. Australian media should be challenging the criminals in our society not those who actively do the right thing,” says Mr Raymond.
