Update on SA Firearm Permit Delays.

Share

Following our campaign to raise awareness of the current delay in processing South Australian firearm permits, SIFA met last Friday with senior South Australia Police (SAPOL) Firearms Branch officers to discuss this issue.

SAPOL assured us that they are aware that the delays are having a significant impact on firearms dealers and discussed the steps they are implementing to remediate the issues and reduce the processing time for PTAs.

As well as committing to adding extra personnel to the department, Firearms Branch have also confirmed that they are working overtime and on weekends to process PTA applications and get on top of the backlog.

SAPOL have advised their first goal is to reduce PTA processing times to 28 days as soon as possible, and we expect that South Australian businesses waiting on permits will soon start to see an improvement in this area.

SIFA would like to thank SAPOL for openly consulting with us and allowing us to air the concerns of the many South Australian firearms dealers that contacted us.

We will continue to maintain open lines of communication with SAPOL and monitor permit processing times until the issue is fixed.
