Share

It is with profound sadness that the SIFA family announces the passing of a true Australian firearms industry icon. Rod Drew passed away peacefully on Friday evening after a courageous battle with Leukemia.

Rod was a true visionary for the Australian firearms and hunting industry. As the founding Executive Officer of SIFA, Rod’s leadership, dedication and knowledge was instrumental in establishing our industry peak-body.

Rod’s passion for the outdoor lifestyle was legendary, and this was demonstrated in all aspects of his professional and personal life. He was just as comfortable walking the halls of Parliament house representing the industry he loved, as he was in the field.

As a well-known and highly respected industry stalwart, Rod’s knowledge and experience was renowned, as was his calm and courteous demeanour that allowed him to develop relationships with some of Australia’s most senior politicians and industry stakeholders.

Rod spent decades of his life fighting for the rights of shooters and hunters, and everyone who partakes in our sport across Australia, is able to enjoy their pastime as a direct result of Rod’s advocacy and hard work. It is this legacy for which we all owe him a great debt of gratitude.

Our industry has lost a giant and a gentleman, whose passing will be felt by many. Rod will be remembered by us for his friendship, passion, and devotion to our cause, and for the legacy he has left to the entire Australian shooting and hunting industry.

The Board and staff of SIFA would like to offer their solemn condolences to Rod’s family and friends at this time. He will be sorely missed.
